The mighty ancient Roman Empire has left its trace in Dragačevo area. Important pottery and other artifacts excavated in Gradina on Jelica mountain are proved to be about five millennia old.

The most important excavations date back to the rule of Justinian. Heavily fortified city that dominated Jelica peak occupied the territory of about 20 hectares. It was the administrative, economic and military center of the region at the time.
