POTPEĆ AND ZLAKUSA The village Potpeć lies 14km from Uzice , 1.5 km from the motorway Belgrade - Užice amd the railway Belgrade-Bar.Numerous waterfalls, old mills and rolling machines, fishponds with trout on the river Petnica…. These are just a few of the characteristics that make Potpeć recognisable.However , the village has become popular primarily due to Potpeć cave. Potpec cave is a monumental work of nature, the most important speleological site of Western Serbia. And it has been protected by law. It is among the five caves in Serbia that are to visitors.The entrance to the cave is 50 m high and is considered the biggest one in the Balkans.The explored. Arranged and illuminated path is 555 m long.The richness of the cave ornaments is rare to be found among the caves of carst t type. The village is not far fro Potpec cave, so with the village Potpec it makes a unique complex, interesting for tourists. Zlakusa is a village famous for its potters , craftsmen who make pottery in an ancient way.In this village tourists can visit the hosts who will show them how these objects are made , and if they wish they can make the pottery on their own. Another attraction of the village is “Terzića garden “. Ethno park “Terzića garden “ in Zlakusa is a museum in the open (a typical village garden with 2 Serbian houses and a farmstead)and an indoor museum ( an ethno room as the constant exhibition and a museum part with periodic thematic exhibitions in the history, ethnology and culture of Uzice region).In the ethno pakr numerous manifestations take place such as «Zlakusa through singing and dancing», «Autumn in Zlakusa», «A singing garden »... which cherish the tradition and folk dancing of this region. Within the village there is an association of ethno-potters and Ethno association “Homeland”- a children’s folk dancing group , an authentic l female and male singing group, a folk dancing group of the veterans . The International fine art colony of ceramics “Zlakusa” have been organised in the village for 12 years.The special characteristics of this colony is in making fine links between the traditional pottery which is unique by the material it uses , the method of work and baking the ceramics in the open fire, and on the other hand the contemporary tendencies in artistic ceramics .The colony has been visited by artists from the whole world. In the vicinity of the village there are marked mountaineering paths , the area is ideal for those who are keen on speleology, mountaineers , pottery lovers and all those who are fond of an active holiday , but also for organising colonies, workshops, summer schools… that would have as their main topic cherishing of Serbian culture and tradition .
KREMNA Kremna is a mountain place in the valley which divides two well-known mountainsin Western Sebia, Zlatibor and TIn the oral folk tradition, besides the legend of the summer castles of the Nemanjic family,there was also “The watchtower of Kremna governor” , birthplace of Kostresh the Outlawwas , known as Moljkovic inn , but Kremna gained the greatest popularity by the well-known Tarabić prophecy, recorded by the orthodox priest Zaharije Zaharić. The altitude of the village hamlets of Kremna is between 750 and 800 m. To this ideal altitude in a climatic sense, we must add flowery fields, mountain meadows with coniferous trees, clear springs and mountain brooks which made Kremna be proclaimed an air spa at the beginning of the XX century. Due to all these natural beauties but also the vicinity of Tara, Zlatibor, Mokra Gora, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kremna has become the most popular village destination of this region, for the tourists in search of a quiet holiday, healthy food and a friendly smile of a real host.The village has a lot of potentials which haven’t been used yet but which can contribute to even better positioning of this area on the tourist map of the region.One of the strategic local projects is the building of an ethno village which would make the offer of village tourism complete.
MOKRA GORA Mokra Gora jhas has become recognisable worldwide by the reconstructed Shargan eight and an ethno villafe of Emir Kusturica which is known as “Wooden town”. The Shargan eight is the most attractive tourist-museum railway in Europe and it is a unique masterpiece in the world among the narrow-gauge lines.The difference in the altitude of 300 m from Šargan to Mokra Gora was solved in a unique and the only possible way- by making an unusual raiway line loop in the shape of number 8. The biggest contribution to the promotion of Mokra Gora was made by our famous film director Emir Kusturica Who shot his film “Life is a miracle” here. Having built an ethno-village on the hill of Mećavnik Emir became a resident of Mokra Gora. Wooden town is a typical village settlement of this region from the 19th century.Not far from it Kusturica also built a modern skiing complex on the hill of Iver at the foot of the mountain Tara. Mokra Gora is rich in water.In the valleys of the rivers, next to the river beds of Kamesina, Beli and Crni Rzav, there is a large number of springs and wells.The springs in the river bed of Kamesina, on its righr bank,have curative effects and thus the spring Bela Voda(White Water) is ranked among very rare springs, not only in Serbia bur worldwide.The research has shown , that by the per cent of alkalis it is ranked as the 16th or the 17th in the world , by narrowing the clasificatioon it could be on the fifth or sixrth place on the scale. Homeland days are organised every year in the summer in Mokra Gora.It is a traditional happening during which the people of Mokra Gora who have left the village and those still living in it gather together.It has become a tourist manifestation due to tits interesting programme and each year it is visited by the tourists both from Serbia and abroad.Here old crafts are demonstrated, the customs remembered, traditionally manufactured goods as well as knitwear and woven items are exhibited.The whole happening is accompanied by delicious cuisine of this region (cheese, cream , smoked ham, plum brandy) and recognisable music of brass orchestras.. The natural environment, unpolluted air, healthy village food enable the visitors to reinvigorate both their body and the soul.In 2005 this area was declared an area of exceptional beauties “Šargan – Mokra Gora” i and it has been under the protection of the state as the natural value of the Republic of Serbia of outstanding importance category I. It spreads onto 3,600 ha of the gorge of Mokra Gora , Šargan and the slopes of Tara , with the established and marked boundaries .In 2008 instead of the name an area with exceptional beauties “ Šargan – Mokra Gora “ a new , higher level of ptotection is introduced and the name changes into “Park of nature Šargan – Mokra Gora “.
Đetinja
The river Đetinja is left tributary of the river Zapadna Morava , it was made by joining The Konjska river and the river Sušica, whose springs are at the foot of the mountain Tara . (Visoka glava 1271 m., Leska gora and Gradina 1172 m.). The beautiful canyon of the Đetinja starts 3 km from the centre of the town. Đetinja is a real mountain pearl with numerous rapids, waterfalls and whirlpools which all hide the capital samples of stream trout.There you can also find mladica and lipljan, nd 6 km from the town na 6 km musicararski revir.The canyon of the river Đetinje, due to its peculiar beauty and value, is soon to be declared the Area of exceptional features “The gorge of the Đetinja“ and it has meen marked as a natural resource of great importance.
Jelova gora Jelova Gora leies to the south-east of the town , 9 kilometres away. It is a rolling plateau with dense forests, with an average altitude of 850 m., with dominating mountain tops : Djakov kamen (1003 m), Presedo, Ozkolište and Zborište. It is rich in water courses (not fully used) with plenty of spring waters (Jovanova voda, Batina voda, Izvorak, Studenac, Samadzinac, recently better known as Desanka’s fountain) the biggest river passing through it is Tatalija, it joins Tmuš and flows into the river u Skrapež. Jelova gora is still unknown and not fully explored resort though it has plenty of wonderful landscapes.Vast meadows, picturesque clearings and forests, the beauty of unspoilt nature and clean mountain air make this holiday area very attractive.Its terrain and natural resources have been preconditions for the development of a “special interest” tourist product on this mountain.Its slopes are ideal for free climbing , mountain cycling, paragliding , mountaineering, horse riding, hunting and some other more peaceful activities such as picking and collecting the herbs, forest fruit, mushrooms. On this mountain there are 25 km of marked mountaineering tracks. This mountain beauty is famous for blueberries far and wide.The chemical content of the soil is suitable for this kind of berries. At the end of August a festival of blueberry is organised here. Jelova gora is a mountain zone , rich in various game for hunting The most common is a roe deer but there is also a fox, a rabbit, a marten a badger and a great variety of forest birds.
THE BEACH The beach on the Djetinja below the Old Town is an area of exquisite beauty.It is at the same time a promenade and a path of health.This place is an oasis of happiness and enjoyment in the very heart of the town.Since 1993, competition in jumping into the river from the old railway bridge, by the water plant , has been organised.
