ABOUT ARILJE
The municipality of Arilje lies in the western part of the Republic of Serbia, within Zlatibor region.It is situated between the river basins of the Moravica, the Big and the Small Rzav., covering the area of 349 km2. Arilje is at the altitude of 330 to 1382 m. According to the configuration of the terrain it belongs to the hilly-mountainous area with a narrow zone of the plain around the river Moravica.According to the census of 2002 , there are 19,784 inhabitants in the municipality.
This area is rich in clean waters and attractive forest landscapes , which makes it one of the cleanest and healthiest areas in Serbia.The preserved environment offers excellent conditions for the production of healthy food.Clear mountain rivers and streams, which abound in clean and high quality water, intersect the territory of the whole municipality and are suitable for water supply, fish raising but their hydro energetic potential is also significant.
Arilje is recognisable in the world by raspberry production , so it is often called the world centre of raspberry. Almost the whole population of the muunicipality is engaged in the raspberry production.More than 5, 000 small factories in the open give the annual production of about 20 million kilograms of raspberry. This region has the biggest concentration of nursery plants in the world and the largest refrigerating plant for fruit in Europe. ( “Agricultural Cooperative Arilje“). Textile products with the registered trademark “ Arilje textiles “ are well-known in the region and across the country.
