Seen for Ivanjica
Ivanjica is heaven-sent for tourism and all-embracing vacation. This town, surrounded by forests, plants and clear waters, was pronounced an air spa back in the pre-war period, which was confirmed by a governmental decision made at the beginning of this millennium. Ivanjica is arched by the most beautiful mountain Golija, proclaimed a biosphere reservation (the only one in the country) by UNESCO. Anemia, lung and neurological diseases can be treated in the Institute for Anemia, located in the center of the town. Nearby Prilički Kiseljak was pronounced a spa in 1873, since its beneficial effect was acknowledged in the 19th century.
The public has got familiar with the beauty of Ivanjica through TV series ”More than a game“, filmed here. The 101-year old Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Moravica, with an impressive waterfall and an ancillary promenade and catering attractions, is located in the settlement park. A stone bridge was built downstream in 1904, and it has been the biggest one-arch bridge in this region. Our diversely interpreted history has accumulated in the town center, within the circle of 50 meters. Three memorials are located in this not that spacious area, all three symbolizing different ideologies of the regional history: Revolution memorial-mosaic, Memorial erected to commemorate General Draža Mihajlović, since Ivanjica is his hometown, and a memorial dedicated to the people killed in the last war. Ivanjica has been all the more known for the recently renewed ”Nušićijada“, a comprehensive manifestation (in honour of the famous comediographer Branislav Nušić) which takes place at the beginning of September, celebrating good humour.
Setting off from Ivanjica upstream the Moravica, you will come across the most beautiful story of this region, Mountain Golija: the realm of intact nature, beautiful waterfalls, lakes and springs, exquisite views, centuries old forests in which you can take deep breaths. Villages of Ivanjica (Kušići, Katići, Devići etc.) are considered the cradle of village tourism in Serbia – local hosts have been the first ones to receive the lovers of village vacations in their homes; nowadays, guests are still eager to conquer these localities. Important sights of this region are: Hadži-Prodanova Cave, Monastery Kovilje built in the 13th century, Church built on the grave of Boško Jugović, a monument erected on Javor to commemorate freedom-fighters, a narrow stone passage built on the Moravica near village Kumanica in the 15th century, also known as the ”Roman Bridge“... The whole region is ideal for trainings of sport teams: it has top courts (two halls, two indoor swimming pools, playgrounds) and lodging facilities; trainings in an air spa are certainly of use to sportsmen. Hunting and fishing hold an important place, too – the river of Braduljica is widely known for the brown trout hatchery, which is unique in this region.
